About us

Varijabla is a non-profit organisation building free software, open data and educational resources for the public good.

What we do

We believe that everyday tools — access to knowledge, price transparency, language resources and learning materials — should be open and available to everyone. That is why we:

• develop QED, a computational knowledge engine that answers questions with deterministic computation rather than guesswork;
• build an open database of grocery prices in Croatian retail stores, linked to the OpenFoodFacts product catalogue;
• maintain Croatian language resources — dictionaries and search tools;
• collect and curate educational materials for the Croatian state matura exam;
• develop household budgeting tools based on open standards.

Principles

1. Openness — we publish code and data under free licences whenever possible.
2. Accuracy — facts come from verifiable sources; assumptions are always clearly labelled.
3. Bilingualism — we publish content in Croatian and English.
4. Privacy — we do not track users or sell data.
